The Northern Emirates court framework
Ajman, Umm Al Quwain (UAQ) and Fujairah operate within the federal court system of the UAE — each has its own Federal Court of First Instance and Court of Appeal, with cassation review by the Federal Supreme Court. Ras Al Khaimah operates an independent court system (RAK Courts) and has its own dedicated arbitration centre (see RAK Reconciliation & Commercial Arbitration).

- Ajman — significant manufacturing and warehousing industry; many cross-border supply disputes; Ajman Free Zone matters
- UAQ — quieter but increasingly active in real-estate and tourism-development disputes
- Fujailah — port and shipping matters; Fujairah Oil Terminal matters; bunker disputes
Practical client guide
Procedural pattern mirrors the federal model. Pre-action correspondence, filing in Arabic, service via court bailiff, pleadings, court-appointed expert if technical, hearing, judgement, appeal, cassation. Foreign documents require full UAE authentication chain. Recoverable legal costs are limited. We act for clients in all three Northern Emirates regularly — most matters originated in Dubai or Abu Dhabi but require Northern Emirates court action because counterparty assets or registered office are domiciled there.
Cross-emirate enforcement
UAE judgements are enforceable inter-emirate under the federal framework. A Dubai Courts judgement can be transferred for execution against assets in Ajman, UAQ or Fujairah through the receiving emirate Execution Court.
